Hello there, my name is Tony and this is my Mk1 blog but this is bound to change with time. I'm a retired Steeplejack welder and took early retirement some time ago so now I have time on my hands to play with small boats. At the present time I sail an Achilles 24 around Milford Haven and I also own a Mk3 Sihouette sail number 71 which I think makes her quite an early build. I bought Double Dee approx 10 years ago, at the time she was named Sandpiper, prior to that she was named Crystall 2, her layout was a basic 2 berths with one berth each to port and starboard with a diaphram toilet between the bunks up against the forward bulkhead. At the time I bought her she had water in her up to the level of the bunk tops but the wood was in good condition. She came with 5 sails in good condition, a Seagull outboard also an Evenrude 1.5hp for the inflatable which when pumped up solid went down again within the hour and a trailer which just got us home after a 55 mile run and as my son said "on a wing and a prayer" but I think it was more to do with voodoo the thing was held together with a coat of paint and not much else the suspention collapsed at the top of my drive but we were home.

So far

My first job was to rebuild the trailer to plans from SOIA, inside was rebuilt to contain a quarter berth with a 2 burner cooker next to the chart area, the starboard side remained with it's bunk, the toilet was replaced with a porta loo under the bridge deck, on deck a solar panel was installed, the front windows were removed and glassed over and r/r foresail installed. Now all the interior will be removed and rebuilt and the cabin side windows made smaller.

Still working

Work on Double Dee is still ongoing though ill health has slowed things down quite a bit, the port side of the cabin is now finished. There is now a semi-quarter berth the foot end of which still extendes under the forward end on the cockpit locker which is now divided in two and leaves a sealed space for the gas bottle. In the cabin there is now a 4 foot seat then a half bulkhead to seperate the cooker (2 burner/ grill ) then a full hight locker shelved out for food ect above the cooker is a rack for crockery. The starboard side will mirror this but with a chart space and bookself above and the locker fitted for clothes.
